Tips for Your Blood Donation
We want to ensure that your donation experience is positive, successful, and safe. Please follow our blood donation tips below.
Please note, if you have concerns regarding any of the recommended tips, please discuss them with our scheduling team prior to your donation appointment.
Tips For a Successful Blood Donation
Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water before, during and after your appointment. Try to avoid alcohol or caffeine beverages. A top reason for deferral is dehydration.
In the days leading up to your appointment, be sure to eat a diet rich in iron. Include food such as spinach, poultry and beans. Another top reason for deferral is anemia.
Get plenty of sleep
Be sure to get a good night’s sleep so you are well rested for your appointment. Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment to ensure we have time to welcome you and fill out the necessary paperwork.
Bring your ID
Wear Comfy Clothes
Wear short sleeves that can be easily rolled above your elbow for blood donations. For bone marrow donations, please wear pants that can be pulled/rolled down at the hips.
Bring a Buddy
Don’t forget about our referral program! Refer 3 of your friends or family members and you’ll receive $25 for every three people who donate.

What our donors say
"I started donating blood with StemExpress in support of my husband and good friend who are both living with autoimmune conditions. Researchers need blood to help them develop new treatments. I encourage others to donate as well. It's a simple thing to do to help others.”
DONOR FOR 3 YEARS
"StemExpress is fabulous. The building is clean, and the donation process is sterile and quick. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I stopped donating at a local blood donation center because the process at StemExpress is so much more enjoyable. And the doctor also makes marrow donation nearly painless.”
